Diego Moroso, Project Director for ACCESS-SMC, presented the feasibility, safety and effectiveness of seasonal malaria chemoprevention (SMC) at scale at the 2018 Multilateral Initiative on Malaria cConference. There is an estimated gap of 12 to 18 million children who could benefit from SMC, but who are not currently included in SMC programmes. Closing this gap and maximising the impact of this intervention is urgent. Malaria can be prevented and SMC can make an important contribution in the Sahel and sub-Sahel regions of Africa.
