Accelerated Malaria Elimination Project Elimination of P. falciparum and P. vivax malaria in an area of multidrug antimalarial resistance

In Preah Vihear and Stung Treng Provinces in the North-East of Cambodia, the Accelerated Malaria Elimination Project was carried out based on strengthened passive case detection and active case detection.
The project aimed at countering the spread of multidrug resistant P. falciparum, with following objectives:
- further reduction/elimination of the reservoir of asymptomatic carriers and (pauci)-symptomatic patients
- maintain the pre-elimination incidence towards elimination
- to sustain the ongoing monitoring of malaria cases and to remain reactive in case of any indications of malaria resurgence
