Severe malaria: Strengthening diagnosis and case management

Published:

Resources: Project brief

Implementing a process of continuous quality improvement and addressing constraints on health workforce capacity will drive improvements in the quality of malaria diagnosis and case management in Kano, Nigeria.

Kano state accounted for nearly 10 percent of Nigeria's total malaria cases in 2021. However, the quality of malaria laboratory diagnosis is below the required standard for appropriate case management, effective disease surveillance and public health response. The Severe Malaria project aims to institutionalise continuous quality improvement to optimise malaria diagnosis and case management of severe malaria in public and private hospitals in Kano state.
