Following scale-up of seasonal malaria chemoprevention (SMC) in Nampula, Mozambique, we assessed the impact of a social and behaviour change (SBC) approach on caregivers' knowledge, adherence and coverage of SMC.

Between 2020 and 2022, Malaria Consortium and the Mozambique National Malaria Control Programme (NMCP) evaluated whether SMC would be a viable strategy for malaria prevention in Mozambique. Following positive results from the pilot study, implementation was scaled up to cover all 23 districts of Nampula province. Following a formative assessment, trained community guide leaders and community distributors shared key malaria messages and advised caregivers on the importance of adherence during door-to-door SMC delivery. This presentation highlights key results from the end-of-round coverage survey.

This presentation was given at the RBM Partnership to End Malaria SBC Working Group 11th annual meeting in Nairobi, Kenya.
