We used the government's clinical audit guidelines to audit health facilities, identify factors associated with malaria deaths and improve quality of care.
Uganda is one of five countries that accounted for 50 percent of malaria cases globally in 2017. In 2016, the Ministry of Health adopted clinical audit guidelines to improve the quality of severe malaria management in health facilities aiming to achieve ‘near zero’ deaths by June 2020. Between 2017 and 2019, Malaria Consortium — under the MAPD project — used these guidelines to audit health facilities in 47 districts to identify factors associated with malaria deaths and improve quality of care.
