Evaluating the impact of COVID-19 on malaria and other infectious diseases in Uganda: Understanding comorbidities

Published:

Resources: Project brief

This project seeks to understand the burden of malaria, but also of TB and HIV/AIDS, among patients with COVID-19 to assess the potential interactions.

Countries in sub-Saharan Africa carry a disproportionately higher share of the global burden of malaria and other infectious diseases. The potential impact of COVID-19 on the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of endemic diseases in the region is, therefore, of critical concern. Uganda is an ideal setting in which to investigate this impact, given the country’s high burden of malaria and numerous cases of COVID-19 to dateThis project seeks to understand the burden chiefly of malaria (but also of TB and HIV/AIDS) among patients with COVID-19, and to assess the clinical consequences of potential interactions.
