Malaria Consortium's seasonal malaria chemoprevention (SMC) programme has applied innovative strategies adapted to the nomadic lifestyle of pastoral communities to ensure effective access to malaria prevention measures.
In the Karamoja region of Uganda, the predominantly pastoral communities face unique challenges in accessing health information due to their mobile lifestyle. Traditional social and behaviour change (SBC) methods have struggled to maintain engagement. We found that a tailored approach generated high acceptance, awareness and knowledge of SMC during its introduction to Karamoja. Read the presentation to discover more about the approaches used and to see the outcomes in terms of acceptability, awareness, knowledge and coverage of SMC.
This presentation was given at the RBM Partnership to End Malaria SBC Working Group 11th annual meeting in Nairobi, Kenya.
