Programme Cooperation Agreement with Government of Uganda

The ICCM Central Project reduced under five child mortality by supporting the implementation of an effective and replicable community based treatment system for childhood malaria, pneumonia, diarrhea and newborn health (ICCM: Integrated Community Case Management), through  community volunteers known as Village Health Teams (VHTs). This project, funded by UNICEF,  ran initially for a two and a half year period from July 2010 until December 2012, but was extended to run until the end of 2014. The project was carried out in eight districts in the Central region of Uganda, namely Wakiso, Mpigi, Butambala, Gomba, Masaka, Bukomansimbi, Lwengo and Kalungu. The project was implemented through the Ministry of Health (MoH) structures at national, district and community levels, particularly the Maternal and Child Health Division (MCH), National Malaria Control Programme (NMCP), Health Education Division and District Health Teams.
