Who we are

From vision to impact

Malaria Consortium began with a simple but powerful idea: that no one should die from a preventable disease. Founded by a small group of passionate individuals, we set out with a vision to improve and save lives. What started as a mission-driven collaboration soon laid the foundation for something far greater than we could have imagined.

A shift from policy to practice

Our journey began as advisers to the UK Government’s Department for International Development, helping shape national malaria policy. But, we wanted to do more than influence change — we wanted to deliver it. In 2003, we became a registered non-governmental organisation in the UK, transitioning from policy advisers to on-the-ground implementers.

Evidence at the heart of what we do

We've always known that effective health interventions must be grounded in strong evidence. Our work combines high-quality research with practical delivery, integrating case management for malaria and other diseases to maximise impact.

Pioneering innovation in global health

We don’t just follow best practices — we help define them. Through research, implementation and policy development, we explore new ways to manage and control diseases effectively, efficiently and sustainably. Our innovative approaches have set standards that others now follow.

Recognised for excellence

In 2021, we were awarded Independent Research Organisation (IRO) status by UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) — a rare distinction for an international NGO. This recognition reflects our commitment to rigorous research and lasting impact.

Looking ahead

Today, Malaria Consortium continues to push boundaries in global health. We remain driven by the same values that sparked our founding: collaboration, innovation, evidence and a deep commitment to empowering and transforming communities.

Where we work

With over 95 percent of our staff national to the malaria-endemic countries in which we work, we currently have programmes and projects across Africa and Asia Pacific.

Collaboration is fundamental to our approach and we are proud to work closely with communities, ministries of health, academic institutions, and local and international organisations to translate research findings into practice, and to deliver cost-effective programmes, even in complex environments.

Our Africa Regional Offices, based in Kampala, Uganda, and Abuja, Nigeria, provide support to Malaria Consortium’s country offices in Burkina Faso, Chad, Ethiopia, Mozambique, Nigeria, South Sudan, Togo and Uganda.

Our Asia Regional Office, based in Bangkok, Thailand, provides support to Malaria Consortium’s country offices in Cambodia and Myanmar.

Malaria Consortium U.S.

Malaria Consortium US (MC-US) is a registered 501(c)(3) tax-exempt charity and the United States entity of Malaria Consortium, sharing the same mission to save lives and improve health in Africa and Asia. Generous charitable donations from individuals and foundations enable MC-US to award grants to Malaria Consortium's implementing countries, to help reduce the burden of malaria and other treatable and preventable diseases.
