inSCALE CommCare Application: Improving quality of care at all levels

Published:

Resources: Technical brief

The inSCALE project evaluates how the quality of health care provided by community health workers in Mozambique can be assessed and improved.

Community health workers (CHW) in Mozambique, locally known as Agentes Polivalentes Elementares (APEs) are an integral part of the national health system. They improve access to quality health care in remote areas of the country and conduct extensive health promotion and education activities among other things. inSCALE, a five-year research and implementation programme supported by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, is evaluating innovative approaches to CHWs’ motivation, supervision and performance by increasing the frequency and quality of supervision and status of CHWs in the community as well as their integration in the health system.
