Project

Strengthening Healthcare Delivery in Iyolwa Sub-county of Tororo District, Uganda

In February and March 2015, Malaria Consortium supported the Comic Relief-funded ‘Operation Health’ project, which renovated and refitted the Iyolwa Health Centre III in Tororo district in Eastern Uganda.

Building upon the successes of the renovation, Malaria Consortium in phase 2 of this project will continue to work towards improving the functionality of the health centre through infrastructure development and equipment maintenance systems to enable delivery of high quality services whilst improving health worker skills, performance and retention. The project aims to l ensure that the gains of phase 1 are preserved and rolled out to catalyse the capacity of the district and the district health management team to strive for further improvements to service delivery. This will be done by improving the management of resources and the governance and leadership of local institutions responsible for services. Key to this will be improving community access to services and continuous engagement in the delivery of services. Working with the district and communities, the project will reduce the physical and social barriers to access and ensure future commitment to quality by widening accountability to users. Emphasis will be placed on achieving sustainable results (e.g. adequate staff accommodation) by leveraging and coordinating resources from district budgets and from the local community in kind.
