The importance of integrating data quality assessment data into decision-making: Impact of data quality assessments on the quality of routine malaria data in Mozambique

Routine data quality can be improved through regular data quality assessments, supervisions and data discussion meetings, thereby helping to optimise programmatic decision-making.

In Mozambique, malaria prevalence in children under five decreased countrywide from 2015 to 2022, but incidence and annual blood examination rates are increasing. In 2018, the country conducted a national malaria surveillance system assessment that helped to develop a surveillance strategy and packages to be implemented countrywide. A surveillance strengthening project was implemented from December 2019 to May 2022 in Mozambique, with 1,458 DQA visits performed in 278 health facilities across 37 districts.
