The Karamoja region of Uganda is predominantly home to nomadic pastoralist communities who are difficult to reach with interventions that are delivered door-to-door, such as seasonal malaria chemoprevention (SMC), due to their highly mobile nature. In 2022, over 230,000 children were targeted with five monthly cycles of SMC in eight out of nine districts in Karamoja from May to September. This study assessed the coverage and quality of implementation, adherence to protocols by health workers and caregivers, and the effectiveness of SMC communication activities.
This oral presentation was given at the Multilateral Initiative on Malaria (MIM) Society's 8th Pan-African Malaria Conference.
