In South Sudan, about 65 percent of women and girls have experienced physical and/or sexual violence in their lifetime. Lack of knowledge and social stigma have prevented many young people from accessing sexual and reproductive health services and speaking out about gender-based violence. Malaria Consortium has worked with existing community structures and influential women to increase uptake of sexual and reproductive health services as part of a four-year gender equality and social inclusion programme to increase awareness and support survivors of gender-based violence.
This presentation was given at the Third International Conference on Public Health in Africa, Lusaka, Zambia, 27-30 November 2023.
