Linking the community to health systems - Malaria Consortium at 10

In February 2014, Malaria Consortium hosted a 10th anniversary symposium to celebrate a decade helping to manage communicable diseases and improve child health among the most vulnerable and marginalised.

The second session, presented by Helen Counihan (Malaria Consortium Senior Public Health Specialist -- Community Systems), entitled 'Linking the community to health systems', emphasised how 'a one size fits all' approach cannot work in the complex environments in which marginalised and vulnerable people live; there must be a fundamental understanding of the context to inform activity design, and the community needs to be able to manage their own health to ensure sustainability.
Helen Counihan was joined by fellow panellists Nichola Cadge (DFID), Dr Kolawole Maxwell (Malaria Consortium Nigeria), and Dr Franco Pagnoni (WHO Global Malaria Programme). The session was chaired by Dr Karin Kallander (Malaria Consortium Senior Research Advisor).
