Nine of the 12 major diseases transmitted by vectors are classified as neglected tropical diseases (NTDs). Collectively, they account for nearly 300,000 deaths a year, yet vector control interventions for these diseases have often been overlooked and under-funded. To tackle the challenge of rapidly spreading and newly emerging diseases, vector control needs to become a central part of NTD control approaches.
