Caterina Cumbi lost three of her eight children to malaria in the 1980s. “There was no health centre nearby, no transport and no health worker.” Since 2010 she been improving the health of her rural community in Jogo, in Mozambique’s southern province of Inhambane, after being elected to work as a community health worker. She is responsible for the health of over 500 families (about 2,000 people).
