Mozambique – Malaria Prevention and Control

“Thousands of community members have been trained across the country, and I feel proud to have been at the forefront of this process. Every time I go to the field, the level of understanding around malaria has improved. I am very excited to see more and more people using mosquito nets, preventing malaria, and most importantly not falling sick.”

Fernando Bambo has been working with Malaria Consortium in Mozambique since 2005. His first assignment was to create demand for long-lasting insecticidal nets at a time when they were being introduced in the country, and when most people had no experience of using nets. He was a pioneer in developing innovative strategies, to make mosquito nets a part of Mozambicans’ day-to-day life. He has always worked hand-in-hand with the health authorities and has developed resources which have been used nationwide.

Over the years, Bambo has focused on developing and delivering training to build the capacity of teachers, women’s groups, volunteers and local associations to educate and mobilise for malaria prevention and control at the grassroots level.
