Inhambane province district of Morrumbene

Geographical Location
Morrumbene district is located in the central province of Inhambane, Mozambique. Its seat is the village of Morrumbene. Has geographical boundaries, with the northern district of Massinga, east to the Indian Ocean, south to the town of Maxixe and the District of Homoíne, and west to the district Funhalouro.

Area and Population
Morrumbene The district has an area of 2580 square kilometers and a population of 124,436, according to preliminary results of the 2007 Census, resulting in a population density of 48.24 inhabitants / km ².

Source of Income
Agriculture is the dominant activity and involves the majority of local households. The main food crops of the family sector are maize, cassava, peanuts and beans. The most important livestock in the district, for the consumption of households and marketing are chickens and goats.

Health
In terms of health infrastructures, the Morrumbene district has nine health facilities, of the 103 existing health facilities throughout the province. In general, there are 0.73 beds per 1000 inhabitants. There are 41 beds in both adult and paedriatic wards and 59 beds in maternity wards. In 2010, the case fatality rate due to malaria in paedriatic wards was 1.8%.

In Morrumbene district there are 9 APE, of which three are under supervision of CS Morrumbene (Morrumbene health center), two are under the supervision of CS Matacalane, two are under the supervision of CS Mucodone; Each of the remaining two APE is under the supervision of CS Cambine, and CS Maivane respectively.

Education
In terms of infrastructure by the year 2008, the district Morrumbene had a total of 96 schools of which 90 are primary schools in grades I and II, 4 and Secondary 2 Tecnico-profissinais. The total number of students is 34,043 for 4971 and primary levels to secondary school. The illiteracy rate is 79%.
