GB-CHC-1099776-3ZMalaria Consortium<narrative>Effective surveillance for malaria outbreak detection in peri-urban areas of Mozambique</narrative>Responding to the surveillance gap revealed by an undetected outbreak of malaria cases in Maputo city, Mozambique in 2025, the project aims to implement interventions to strengthen early detection and effective response to malaria outbreaks in peri-urban areas.
Drawing on a formative assessment of existing data systems, processes and tools for epidemiological and entomological data, the project will co-design interventions with key stakeholders. Potential surveillance strengthening interventions to be implemented will include capacity and process strengthening for data collection and reporting, regular data quality monitoring, analysis and use of epidemiological, entomological and climate data for early outbreak identification, effective data sharing mechanism between departments and levels, improved capacity and tools for outbreak detection and investigation, and training and supervision for effective response planning and monitoring.
