inSCALE project’s first Technical Advisory Group meeting in Kampala

Jan 5, 2012

London, 05 January 2012: Last December, inSCALE held its first technical advisory group meeting. The Malaria Consortium invited a group of nine experts from all over the world to Kampala, Uganda, to discuss progress of the inSCALE programme and the design of innovations that will help Community Health Workers in Uganda and Mozambique performing their daily work.

Community Health Workers are trained to provide free diagnosis and care for children in their communities, and the inSCALE project aims to identify and document best practices to improve quality of care and increase coverage of community health work in rural areas.

The Technical Advisory Group members shared their experience in the fields of Malaria, Pneumonia, mHealth, Paediatrics and Public Health. It was an opportunity to discuss plans for an evaluation trial of innovations to improve CHW performance and how to improve coverage of ICCM (Integrated Community Care Management of childhood malaria, pneumonia and diarrhoea) in the two countries in a sustainable way.

Shamim Qazi, the elected Chairman of the Technical Advisory Group, commented on behalf of the group: “inSCALE  is a very important and ground-breaking project that will fortify ICCM at country level. This is a key project to strengthen and optimise health systems in less developed countries, where coverage of evidence based interventions is inadequate. The Advisory Group commends the team on the excellent work that has been done up to now and are optimistic that this good quality of work will continue”.

The technical advisory group is scheduled to meet once a year until 2014 when inSCALE ends.

Members of the inSCALE Advisory Group are:
