Inhambane province district of Funhalouro

Geographic Location
Funhalouro district is located in the central part province of Inhambane, south of Mozambique. Its seat is the village of Funhalouro. Has geographical boundaries with the northeast Inhassoro, east to the Massinga, and Morrumbene Homo'ne, south to the Panda district, west district is bounded by Chigubo Gaza province and the northwest and north by the district of Mabote.

Area and Population
The district of Funhalouro has an area of 13.617 square kilometers and a population of 37.856, with a population density of 2.78 inhabitants per km_. It has a total of 8058 households.

Sources of Income
Agriculture is the dominant activity and is practiced by almost all households but also associative and small-scale private sector in seed multiplication of cassava.

Health
Taking into account the total number of population, access to health services is limited. In terms of health infrastructures, the Funhalouro district has four health facilities (3.9%) of the 103 existing health facilities throughout the Inhambane province. In general, there are 0.89 beds per 1000 inhabitants. There are 15 beds in both adult and paedriatic wards and 17 beds in maternity wards. In 2010, the case fatality rate due to malaria in paedriatic wards was 1.0%.

Number of APE's
In Funhalouro district there are 6 APE, of which four are under supervision of CS Funhalouro (Funhalouro health center); each of the remaining two APE is under the supervision of CS Mavume, and CS Chiginuire respectively.

Education
In terms of infrastructure by the year 2008, the district of Funhalouro had a total of 37 schools, 36 primary schools of I and II degrees and one secondary school. The total number of students is 8588 for primary levels and 267 for secondary. The illiteracy rate is 56.8%.
