Geographical Location
Massinga district is a district in the central province of Inhambane, Mozambique. Its seat is the town of Massinga. Has geographical boundaries, with the northern districts of Vilanculos and Inhassoro, east to the Indian Ocean, south to the district Morrumbene and west to the district Funhalouro.

Area and Population
Massinga district has an area of 410km² 7 and a population of 186,292, according to preliminary results of the 2007 Census, resulting in a population density of 25.14 inhabitants / km². The population recorded in 2007 represents a decrease of 1.1% compared to 186 650 inhabitants registered in the 1997 Census.

Sources of Income
Agriculture is the dominant activity and involves the majority of local households. The main food crops of the family sector are maize, cassava, peanuts and beans. The most important livestock in the district, for the consumption of households and marketing are chickens, goats and ducks.

Health
In terms of health infrastructures, the Massinga district has ten health facilities, of the 103 existing health facilities throughout the province. In general, there are 0.79 beds per 1000 inhabitants. There are 73 beds in both adult and paedriatic wards and 102 beds in maternity wards. In 2010, the case fatality rate due to malaria in paedriatic wards was 2.3%.

Number of APE
In Massinga district there are twenty-one APE, of which eighteen are under supervision of CS Massinga (Massinga health center); Each of the remaining three APE is under the supervision of CS Maumba, CS Murrie, and CS Nhachengue respectively.

Education
In terms of infrastructure by the year 2008, the district Mabote had a total of 126 schools of which 122 are primary schools in grades I and II, 3 and Secondary 1 Tecnico-profissinal. The total number of students is 53,165 for 5747 and primary levels to secondary school. The illiteracy rate is 73.3%.
