Dr Precious Lunga trained as a neuroscientist and epidemiologist. She was Head of Health at Econet wireless where she established a business unit promoting access to health services using mobile phones. One of the unit’s products, the EcoHealth Tips mobile health information platform, acquired more than 500,000 customers within its first year of launch. Prior to that, Dr Lunga worked at UNAIDS Geneva where she was involved in spearheading the implementation of HIV prevention programmes. She was also strategic advisor to the UK’s second largest charitable foundation, funding programmes across Africa and India. A vocal advocate for the right to health and education, she also worked with women across multiple countries in Africa in anti-HIV microbicide trials whilst she was at the UK Medical Research Council. Dr Lunga has been featured at the Women of the World festival and media programmes including BBC Radio 4, BBC World Service and Sky News. She received her undergraduate degree from the Edinburgh University, her doctorate from Cambridge University and her epidemiology training from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.
