Dr Neil Squires is a Director of Global Health at Public Heath England, Chair of the Global Health Committee of the Faculty of Public Health and will be chairing the International Forum of the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges from July 2015 – July 2016. Neil was formerly Head of Profession for Health at the UK Department for International Development, and spent 16 years working for DFID, living in Mozambique and Bangladesh, spending 3 years working with the European Commission in Brussels and 5 years as Regional Health Adviser for Africa. He left DFID in 2014 to join Public Health England. Prior to joining DFID, Neil has worked as a District Medical Officer in Malawi and trained in Leprosy Control in Tamil Nadu, India, prior to training in Public Health in Liverpool and the North West. With a particular interest in the health workforce, Neil continues to support the Work of the WHO and the Global Health Workforce Alliance, championing the need to increase health workforce numbers in order to achieve Universal Health Coverage.
